I Don’t Much Care for Christians

This afternoon, I’ve spent a little more time than usual perusing the Web, and I just have to tell you…I don’t much care for many of the Christians I’ve found out there. I mean, I love them, because I believe there’s hope…even for the worst of us…but I really don’t like the ones who hurt other people under the pretense of representing my God.

There are so many posts, with strings of comments that would stretch for miles on end, wherein these narrow-minded, self-righteous, pious little oompa-loompas are using the Name and twisting the Word of my good, loving, powerful God to hurt other people. They’re hopping over to the other side of the Judge’s bench and condemning people to hell. They’re using the old “sins of the father” routine to shame and blame parents with kids who have taken a wrong turn in life. They’re spouting scripture at lost folks who really just need to be loved. It just makes me so angry…and sad. How could you know the Word of God so well and use it in that way? And to think of having to answer for what you’ve done when you get to Heaven…I would be scared to death. It makes me sad for their souls and heartbroken for the people they’re attacking.

If you’re a Christian, would you please just do us all a favor and TRY to act as much like Christ as possible? That’s what being a Christian is supposed to mean…being Christ-like. That means you go out of your way to love and forgive and to endure others. It means you help the hurting, feed the hungry, and encourage the broken. It means you’re humble and your relationship with God is shown much less through your mouth than it is through your actions. It’s remembering to hate sin but love the sinner. If you have a bunch of hate to spew, direct it toward devil, not people. If you have a bunch of opinions, please make sure you differentiate between YOUR opinions and the opinions of GOD. Unfortunately, there is often a big difference. And if you’re doing all those things to the best of your ability, then I’m not talking to you. Not all Christians act crazy, but the ones who are sure do seem to be the noisiest of the bunch! I’m a huge proponent of standing firm in the Word of God. I don’t want anyone to water down their Christianity. I just want Christianity to represent the heart of Christ as laid out in His Word and as exemplified by His actions while He was here on this earth. If you’re not doing that, then you’re being religious, and you can consult the Bible to see how Jesus feels about religion for the sake of religion…just look under “Pharisee.”

If you’re not a Christian and you’re wondering what we’re about, please don’t believe everything you see on the Web…or even in real life. Some folks are just mean, whether they think they’re saved or not. The thing is, Christians can hurt you. Christians can fail you. Whatever you do, please don’t put your trust in them. They’re just regular people with flaws and sins of their own – whether they’ll admit it or not. It doesn’t matter if a person is a preacher or a pew-sitter, we’ve all fallen short in some area of our lives or another. None of us are perfect and we will never be perfected until we get to Heaven. Place your trust in an unfailing God. He is so good – and He loves you. No matter what, He loves you and He will never stop loving you. There is nothing you can do, no sin too big nor any mistake too bad, for which God wouldn’t forgive you…all you have to do is ask. He knows you better than anyone. He knows the things that you try to keep hidden for fear of man’s judgment. He knows the unspoken desires of your heart. He knows your pain and your fears and He wants to set you free. He has good plans for you…plans He made for YOU before you were ever born, and He will do everything He can to help you to be successful in achieving them if you will just allow Him to have access to your life. Please don’t let a few over-zealous, confused Christians turn you away from this amazing God. Please don’t let them convince you that we’re all crazy. I’m sorry if someone has hurt you in the name of God, but I pray you’ll find a way to forgive them and let Him begin His incredible work in you. If you were the only person on earth…if you personally drove those nails into the Cross through Jesus’ hands and feet…He still would have died, just for you, so that you could be saved. He is so worthy of the time it will take to get to know Him. Don’t try to do what religious people do…don’t try to earn His grace…don’t try to be “right” before you ask Him into your heart…you don’t have to do it at Church, in front of a preacher, or even with a friend. You can do it right now, right where you are, and He will immediately forgive you and He will change your life forever.

This has been a public service announcement brought to you by a primarily non-crazy Christian who just wants to see you set free here on Earth so you can be in Heaven with me some day. 🙂

I'm a lover of Jesus who occasionally likes to throw her thoughts out here, mostly as an altar, to remember the paths along which the Lord has taken me, but also as an encouragement to whomsoever. :)
